Ingredient Qty. Unit
shortening 1 1/2 Cups
boiling water 2 Cups
baking soda 2 Teaspoons
nuts, Chopped 1 Cups
dates, chopped 1 Cups
brown sugar 1 Cups
granulated sugar 1 Cups
eggs 2 Each
flour, sifted 4 Cups
vanilla 1 Teaspoons
Directions
  1) Combine water, soda, nuts, dates. Cook stirring constantly for 4 min. Cool slightly.
  2) Cream shortening (butter) and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat.
  3) Combine flour and date mixture. Mix well.
  4) Bake 375 degrees for 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 hour.
